Joost and Evelien

We are the skippers of the Clipper Engelburg. We have been living on the water since 2001 and in 2011 we bought the Engelburg.

Together we have restored the entire ship in recent years with great enthusiasm. Joost, our handyman, can make absolutely anything, while Evelien with her talent for rust chipping and painting makes the ship shine.

We enjoy our special home on the water every day!

Evelien Lammers

I met Joost at Sailing School Rufus and shortly after, we decided to live on the water. The connection with nature, the freedom to go where we want, gives me a good feeling.

Over the past decades I have learned to sail and sail on a large ship together with Joost, and we have obtained our captain licenses. We have restored the entire ship and furnished it to our taste and style.

During a boat trip, with my head in the wind, I feel part of the bigger picture. I want to share this feeling of freedom and connectedness, it makes me happy.

We have consciously chosen for small scale, so that we have time and attention for each other and for where we are. This attention creates connection, connected with nature and the people around me. I can't think of a place where that can be more beautiful than in beautiful places on the water with a mighty beautiful ship.

Joost le Feber

As a child I discovered the attraction of boats, water and nature. First in a borrowed sailboat, and later in my first own wooden sailboat, a Vrijheid from the 60s. Living on the water always seemed great to me, and came within reach thanks to the Groningen Noorderhaven, the last free port in the Netherlands. After living and sailing on the Anna Cecilia, a Groningen Steilsteven for 10 years, we have had the two-mast clipper Engelburg since 2011. Initially to live, to sail recreationally, and to enjoy the freedom. You can go wherever you want, and it is precisely the places that are not so easy to get to that are often very beautiful. A bit desolate, but therefore also beautiful and quiet. I think other people find that beautiful too and can enjoy it.

After 30 years of working in science, it is time for another choice. I believe that celebrating holidays is a true quality in life, and I would like to share this art of living with others.

Let's enjoy what the world has to offer to the fullest!
