Outbound journey from Harlingen to Leer: August 7-14, 2025.

Thursday August 7th Harlingen

Signing on from 8pm, coffee and tea are ready! Time to get to know the crew and each other and of course to explore your sleeping place.

Friday August 8th Harlingen- West Terschelling

Around 10:00 we cast off and sail to Terschelling. On the way you will learn the first knots, how to hoist the sail and the basics of navigation. In short, enough to do, but you can also enjoy the water and the wind on deck. When we get close to Terschelling, you will already see the Brandaris. In the afternoon we will reach the harbour of West Terschelling. Then you can explore the island, by bike or just a nice walk on the Groene Strand. West Terschelling is a very nice village where you can wander around. We will cook a delicious meal together.

Saturday August 9th West- Terschelling- Boschplaat

After breakfast we leave at 9.00. We leave a bit earlier today because we want to dry out under the Boschplaat.

In the afternoon you can walk across the dried-up mudflats, enjoy nature, the birds and, in the evening, the stars.

Sunday August 10th Boschplaat- Ameland

We leave at high tide, around 11:00 and sail towards Ameland. On the way we pass the blue Balg where seals often lie. With a bit of luck we can see them up close!

Monday August 11th Ameland- Lauwersoog

We leave today as soon as we are free. Today we are going over 2 wantijen! These are shallows under the Wadden Islands. On the way to Lauwersoog we first go over the Pinkewad and then over the Wierumerwad. Both are around 1 meter drying out. Oo-hoo, always a bit exciting! We expect to arrive at the fishing port of Lauwersoog at the end of the afternoon.

Tuesday August 12 Lauwersoog- Borkum (D)

Today we cross the border and sail to Borkum. This day we also have 2 Wantijen, which are even more drying than yesterday! We leave at 11:00 so that we are on the 2nd Wantij at high tide.

When we reach the Dollard we sail with the current to Borkum. On the way we will certainly encounter large seagoing vessels.

Wednesday August 13 Borkum (D)- Delfzijl

In the morning you can still 'Spazieren' in Borkum. We leave at 11.30 and set course for Delfzijl, with the flood current we go nice and fast.

In the afternoon we arrive in Delfzijl, an old town in the far north of Groningen.

Thursday August 14 Delfzijl- Leer (D)

The last day of the outward journey to Leer already! We leave today at 11.00 with rising tide to Leer, where we will participate in the Traditions Schiffe Treffen. On the way we will scrub the deck to appear nicely on stage.

Return

Return trip from Leer(D) to Harlingen (NL): August 17-23, 2025

Sunday August 17 Learn

Signing on from 20:00, coffee and tea are ready! Time to get to know the crew and each other and of course explore your sleeping place. Because it is shortly after neap tide we cannot go back over the mudflats for the first part and we go 'inside'.

Monday August 18 Learn – Appingedam

9.00 we leave the harbour of Leer, so that we are through the lock at 10.00. We then go with the ebb current towards Delfzijl. In the course of the afternoon we moor in Appingedam. A beautiful town with characteristic overhanging kitchens.

Tuesday 19 August Appingedam – Groningen

After breakfast we depart over the Eemskanaal to the old university city of Groningen. Where we moor in the city centre. In the afternoon there is enough time to explore Groningen and enjoy everything this city has to offer. Think of the Groninger Museum, tea garden behind the monastery or the climb of

the Ole Grieze, the Martini Tower, or a visit to the Forum. The possibilities are endless.

For people who like a bit more exercise, this is also a nice trip to cycle or partly walk. See; NS walking routes.

Wednesday 20 August Groningen – Zoutkamp/ Lauwersoog

We leave after breakfast and go over the Reitdiep, a beautiful, winding old sea arm towards the Lauwersmeer. On the way we pass through the fishing village; Zoutkamp. Where we make a short stop.

Then we sail to Lauwersoog where we go through the lock to spend the night in the fishing harbour. Up early again tomorrow!

Thursday August 21 Lauwersmeer- Ameland

6.00 departure from Lauwersoog! We will sail over 2 tidal flats; the Wierumerwad and the Pinkewad and can only cross them at high tide. Always exciting!

We will arrive early on Ameland. If there is room we will moor in the harbour, otherwise we will anchor in front of the harbour. You can then come ashore with the dinghy. Always something on the mudflats!

Friday August 22 Ameland – West Terschelling

We leave Ameland at 8.30 and set course for the Blauwe Balg. With a bit of luck we will see the seals lying on the plate from very close by. We sail further under Terschelling to the harbour of West Terschelling.

This is the longest day of sailing, about 6 to 7 hours. On the way we will have a nice lunch on deck. In the afternoon we will arrive at the harbour of West Terschelling. That is a very nice village where you can stroll through. There is also time to explore the island by bike or on foot.

Saturday August 23 West Terschelling- Harlingen

We stay on Terschelling for the morning so that we can sail to Harlingen with the afternoon tide. This way you can explore the island for a while.

We leave the harbour of West Terschelling at 15:00. We eat on deck on the way. We hope to moor in the harbour of Harlingen, our final destination, around 19:30.
